Early childhood caries, which include baby bottle tooth decay, nursing caries, and rampant caries, is terminology now proposed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention to identify a specific dental disease affecting the primary(baby) teeth in very young children.  ECC may attack any child and is largely untreated in children under age 3. Patients with ECC have a higher risk of developing cavities in both the primary (baby) and permanent teeth. That’s why early detection and prevention technique are so important.

Therefore, in order to evaluate children for dental caries, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry & the American Academy of Pediatrics  recommend all children should have a dental examination NO later than age 1.
